Flood Risk Assessment & Management Studies

In circumstances where the local authority considers there is a risk of flooding, they may require a flood risk assessment to accompany a planning application. The Irish planning guidelines concerning flood risk management (adopted November 2009) require flood risk assessments to be carried out to support local, town and county development plans and to support individual planning applications for both new and infill developments. Such studies are carried out in a phased approach commencing with a screening assessment and then onto a scoping assessment and the subsequent appropriate strategic and site specific flood risk assessments.

Assessment of flood history of site, hydrometric data (water levels & flows) for the adjacent water body, surveyed site levels and rainfall data for extreme events as recorded or estimated by Met Eireann.
